How to Build a Brand Identity Without a Designer

A step-by-step way to create a consistent, professional brand — logo, colours, type and voice — even if you are not a designer and do not have a big budget.

A brand is not just a logo — it is the consistent look and feel that makes people recognise you. Here is how to build one yourself, in order.

1. Start with your logo

Pick one clear logo and use it everywhere. Starting from scratch? A template is the fastest route to something professional — see our guide on choosing a logo style. Keep a vector version so it scales cleanly.

2. Choose a small colour palette

Three to five colours is plenty: one main colour, one or two supporting colours, and a neutral. Use the same hex codes everywhere so nothing drifts. Consistency reads as established far more than the specific colours you pick.

3. Pick two fonts and stop

One font for headings, one for body text. Two is enough for almost any brand — more starts to look messy. Pick fonts you can use across your website, documents and social posts.

4. Write down your voice

A sentence or two: are you friendly and casual, or precise and premium? Note three words that describe your tone, and check your captions against them.

5. Put it all in one place

Collect the logo, colours, fonts and voice into a single one-page reference so every future post stays on-brand.
